The United States experiences high rates of maternal morbidity and mortality, with most maternal deaths occurring after delivery. Given this, attention has focused on the role of insurance coverage in promoting access to healthcare in the postpartum period. This blog discusses coverage trends for new mothers from 2019 through 2024 due to federal and state policy changes, such as Medicaid unwinding and postpartum coverage extensions from COVID-19.
