New Evidence Confirms Arkansas’ Medicaid Work Requirement Did Not Boost Employment

Congress is considering enacting federal work requirements for Medicaid eligibility. This analysis uses Arkansas’ work requirement program and national survey data to assess possible effects of Medicaid work requirements on coverage and enrollment. The findings suggest the adoption of a similar work requirement in other states or nationally would decrease health insurance coverage rates without achieving the policy goal of promoting work.
